Watching the World Cup on Bleecker Street | The Red Lion, Greenwich Village

World Cup at The red Lion

The World Cup is six days away and the question most Greenwich Village locals are already working through is the same one: where in the West Village do you actually want to spend a match day this summer. Not just the England game on June 27, or the final on July 19 but the whole tournament, start to finish.

The Red Lion on Bleecker Street is where that answer leads.

Open since 1984, a football bar long before the World Cup came to New York, and one of the few Bleecker Street bars with both the screens to watch a game properly and the live music to carry the night forward after full time.

Every game, all summer

The Red Lion is showing every televised World Cup 2026 fixture from the group stage through the final. Doors open at 11:00 AM on every match day. The full kitchen runs all day. Walk-ins only — for the big West Village watch party nights, arrive early.

MetLife Stadium, five miles across the Hudson, is hosting eight matches including the final on July 19. These are the games coming to the stadium just across the river:

June 13 — Brazil vs Morocco, 6:00 PM ET

June 16 — France vs Senegal, 3:00 PM ET

June 22 — Norway vs Senegal, 8:00 PM ET

June 25 — Ecuador vs Germany, 4:00 PM ET

June 27 — Panama vs England, 5:00 PM ET

June 30 — Round of 32, 5:00 PM ET

July 5 — Round of 16, 4:00 PM ET

July 19 — World Cup Final, 3:00 PM ET

Every one of those games will be on screen at The Red Lion. So will every other fixture in the tournament. June 27 and July 19 are the days to plan around — both will fill the bar fast.

What match day actually looks like

The Red Lion has 10+ HD screens covering every angle of the bar. When a big game kicks off the room fills with regulars who have been watching football here for years — local New Yorkers, British and Irish expats, NYU staff, people who have been coming since the Premier League days and treat Saturday mornings at The Red Lion the same way they would a season ticket. The sound is on for every game. The atmosphere is not assembled for a tournament — it is already there.

Gothamist included The Red Lion in their locals' World Cup guide, describing it as a , describing it as a "Village standby" opening at 11am every match day with over 10 HD screens. NYC Tourism called it "a traditional British pub that's been around for over 40 years the perfect spot to watch the Fifa World Cup 2026", known for showing soccer alongside its live music programming. Fox 5 NY listed it among their recommended World Cup watch venues in Manhattan.

The Red Lion pours its own Amber and Light on tap. The full kitchen opens at 11:00 AM on match days and runs all day. Fish and Chips, Shepherd's Pie, and the Red Lion Burger are the standards. The nachos are built for a group.

On weekends, Bottomless Brunch runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM — unlimited mimosas, Bloody Marys, Aperol Spritz or Red Lion drafts paired with any entree. For anyone planning a morning kickoff watch party in the West Village, that combination is difficult to beat.

Entry is free Sunday through Thursday. A cover charge applies on Fridays, Saturdays, and holidays.

After the final whistle

Most West Village sports bars clear out when the game ends. The Red Lion does not. Three bands play nightly with live music until 4:00 AM — a World Cup afternoon on Bleecker Street can run straight through into the evening without needing to find a second venue. It is the only bar in Greenwich Village where you can watch the game at midday and still be at a live show at midnight.

Average Socialite included The Red Lion in their tristate World Cup guide for NYC alongside hotels and fan zones — citing the match day atmosphere and the live music programming as what sets it apart from a standard sports bar.

Eater NY also included The Red Lion in their 2026 World Cup guide for NYC and New Jersey, covering where to watch across Manhattan ahead of the tournament.
